Happy Summer!

Sweltering here. There too?

But a lot of movement, yes? Not only my exercise-detector app noting all my blackfly swats. I sent out...(drumroll)... submissions. And got a few poem acceptances. And a lot of nos. I tend to batch do that only a few times a year. for every yes, I send out 5 more. For every no, I hibernate for 2 or 3 months.

As of now there are 3 books manuscripts and 1 chapbook manuscript out circulating and two on the edge of being sent out and 2 more that i hope to finish the first draft of by September.

ICYMI: I've been doing mini-interviews with poets over at pesbo and expect to launch a new series of them over June.

I got interviewed at Artisanal Writer about footlights.

We're on the cusp of the Haiku Canada Conference, May 16-22. That's not a typo. Instead of a weekend, this year it's a whole week! I'll be reading in Quebec reading 7-8pm on May 20. I'm excited to release into the world the Betty Drevniok broadsheet of the contest as judged by Michael Dylan Welch. I'll be contest coordinator for a few more years.

I'm the incoming president of Friends of Wakefield Library so am ever scouting for new members. We made $560 in 6 hours at the book sale so that's decent. (It averages to almost the hourly wage of a good web designer.)

I've been reading. I always seem to be reading a dozen books in parallel, aided and abetted by the FoWL book sale. I may have got a few. *cough* A few bags *cough*.

That's about the news literary-wise.

Oh, book recommendations if you're in the market to read, the cream I found: Where Things Touch: A Meditation on Beauty by Bahar Orang *Book*hug, 2020), The Streets, Like Flowers, Come Alive in the Rain by Steve Deneham (Potter’s Grove Press, 2021), Book of Annotations by Cameron Anstee (Invisible Publishing, 2018), The Lake by James Lindsay (KFB, 2022), Perpetual Ideal: poems by Mike Caesar (Anstruther, 2022), A Snake Falls to Earth by Darcie Little Badger (Levine Querido, 2021) and Quiet Night Think: Poems and Essays by Gillian Sze (ECW, 2022)

Have yourselves a splendid weekend.

And check out my Instagram if you have a minute at pearlpiriepoet

Stay safe,
P
