small press season goodness
small press season
it's coming up chapbooks.
I'm excited to say that this fall there are new mini chapbook entering the world. One phafours chapbook is by Phil Hall, called Eigner. That's on on the U.S. poet who used his typewriter as his glasses and his legs. A second is a vispo mini chapbook by Sanita Fejzic called The Union of 6 & 7 which is a meditation on Canada in vispo.
You can see them here or come to the Ottawa small press fair Jack Purcell Community Centre, (320 Jack Purcell Lane, just off Elgin St., Ottawa) on Sat Nov 8, 2014, 12 noon-5pm, or come to Meet the Presses in Toronto Sat Nov 22, 2014, 11:30am-5pm. (That's at the Tranzac Club 292 Brunswick Ave., Toronto).
In other ephemeral literary movements, there's the radio. This week the feature guest is Monty Reid.
When you want to hear more tune into CKCU Literary Landscape on Nov. 6th at 6:30pm at 93.1fm or listen live or in podcast version at CKCUfm.com. While you're there, please donate to the fundong drive. The station is run without grants, on the grace and cash of donors. It costs $50 an hour to run the station 24/7 (for rent & records & all the etc) plus this yearsthe 1985 boards and consoles which were stuck together with ingenuity and glue finally got replaced with new. Literary Landscape is past its halfway point for donations. Dial 613-520-3950 to donate or consider doing it online. Heaps of thanks.

Looks what's new at phafours! Kissing Bug by Monty Reid is a new suite of poems from his upcoming book Hosts. The poems round up stories and stirrings from the microfauna world of parasites. If you haven't already, get his book Garden, out from Chaudiere this fall.
Other news, for those of you outside of Ottawa or with transport, Roland Prevost and I will be giving readings with Writers Read Series Sat Nov 15, 2014, 2pm at North Grenville Public Library, Kemptville Branch, 1 Water St, Kemptville. If you missed it we are part of a rout/e poetry installation in Ottawa at Petrie Island along with Sandra Ridley, Blaine Marchand and David Groulx. Here's a picture from that poem planting event:

What else? Also in Toronto, I'll be at the Best Canadian Poetry 2014, launch November 24th at Joy Bistro (surely that venue name bodes well), 884 Queen St East, Toronto with various readers from the Tightrope anthology.
Back at home Tree Seed Workshops continue the second and fourth Tuesday at Black Squirrel Books, 1073 Bank St. Upcoming workshops are on poet personae led by JM Francheteau. Check out all the readings at treereadingseries.ca
My 4th recipe column for the Centretown Buzz is out in mid-November. Watch for Planet of the Scapes online here or in Centretown stores. This time we're talking autumn comfort: bread, applesauce and kale.
The author site with its face lift has also a new tab of resources of poetry tools, including a handout on rhythm in poetry.
Before I let you go for now, here's too a sneak peak at a final or almost final cover for the spring title of my own: the pet radish, shrunken. Is that not the picture of gorgeousness?
Until next time, keep loving, keep laughing, keep reading and keep writing,
Pearl
